Groups & Activities
On Sunday mornings during the first half of the service we run a number of children’s activities. We believe at St. Matthew’s that our children deserve the very best in the nurturing of their spirituality, so, rather than have them sitting through a sermon, they have their own groups where they are able to engage with the scriptures in their own way.
A group for the under 5’s. Children go out during the hymn just before the Gospel reading, along with their parent(s)/carer and rejoin the congregation for the sharing of Christ’s peace. The group normally takes the format of a Godly Play or story session, great fun for children and adults alike!
A group for primary school children to learn about our faith and traditions through stories and craft. Junior Church meet during the first half of the service and re-join the congregation for the sharing of Christ’s peace.
A new way of doing church. On the 1st Sunday of each month at 4pm. A mixture of craft activities, songs, stories and drama, for all the family. Lasts for 30 minutes followed by Sunday tea.

St Matthew’s Toddler Group meets during term-time in the Church Hall, Parish Room on Monday mornings from 9.45am – 11.15am. We aim to provide a relaxed and welcoming space for parents, grandparents, and carers to meet one another and for the children to get used to playing together. We have a variety of toys and activities on offer, but due to limited space we do not have ride-on toys. We provide drinks and snacks halfway through the morning.
