Banns of Marriage
The law requires all couples getting married to give notice a month before their wedding takes place. In church, this notice is called "banns of marriage". The law states that banns should be called at the church where you are to be married, and also at your parish church if this is different. Banns are an ancient legal tradition and can be a special time as you hear your name read out and members of the congregation are invited to pray for you.
