You will have heard by now that the Church of England requires us to suspend all acts of worship in our churches and so it is with a very heavy heart that I am letting you know that there will be no public acts of worship in our church until we are advised otherwise.
This will be sad news to the many who love our church and whose chief joy in life is joining in with the worship we share, but we have a duty of care to protect ourselves and others, and so we will be doing all that is now required of us.
I will be posting a further message in a few days time Coronavirus: Ways you can still feel part of St Matthew’s when I will be in a position to suggest ways in which we can still be in touch with each other both pastorally and prayerfully. I am determined that we will find ways to still be a church family together, even if that is at a personal distance.
I can confirm also that the following events are now cancelled in addition to our worship and there will be more to follow as I have conversations with those who are leading things.
The coffee shop is closed until further notice
The Thursday lunchtime concert programme has been suspended
The Lent Lunch on 28 March is cancelled as is the Dunottar concert the same evening
The Bereavement Group meetings are cancelled – the next one was to have been led by me on 24 March
All Lent Groups are cancelled
Many of you have made contact with me by phone and email to ask about specific things and to share concerns. These contacts are going to be very important in the days ahead and I will reply to each of you, but I know you will understand that it may take a few days for me to get fully up to speed.
One thing is for certain… you will all be in my prayers daily.
With much love
